Dr. Heather Sparling is an ethnomusicologist at Cape Breton University who researches Gaelic song, music, and dance in Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canadian disaster songs, focusing on issues of language revitalization and memorialization. She is an award-winning teacher and writer and a fluent Gaelic learner. She is principal flutist with the Cape Breton Orchestra and is learning to play the fiddle.
