Public Dig

Saturday, September 8th, 2018 to Sunday, September 9th, 2018

9:00 – 12:00; 1:00 – 4:00 Pre-registration required

Building on the public archaeology weekends of 2016 and 2017, and the additional excavation carried out by professional archaeologists, we are inviting the public to continue to assist us in the quest to discover the location of the 1828 iron foundry believed to be on our site. Participants can choose from the junior dig, suitable for children and adults; or an advanced dig experience for participants age 15 and up. Both experiences will be supervised by professional archaeologists. Dig sessions are 9:00 – 12:00 and from 1:00 – 4:00. There is a maximum of 20 participants per dig type for each session. Admission is free.

Please make sure that you wear closed-toe shoes and preferably long pants or jeans to protect against broken glass or metal. Trowels, buckets, root snips, and other equipment will be provided for you, but you must provide your own personal equipment such as gardening gloves, knee pads, and (if you wish) hats, sunscreen, or bug spray.

Pre-registration is required. Call the Museum at 902-755-5425 to register and learn more.
