It only makes sense that a museum of industry would have some really big things. Locomotives, machine tools weighing up to 40 tons, steam engines, and automobiles are some of the objects we have collected using cranes or forklifts to remove them from buildings or industrial sites, loading them onto truck flatbeds or railcars and unloading them at the museum. Once here, they sometimes have been moved multiple times to be stored, to undergo conservation and restoration treatments, and to be displayed in exhibits. They can be awkward or have fragile parts, the weight can be unevenly distributed, or we may not even know how much the artifact weighs. People sometimes ask us how we do it.
